چکیده
Abstract Ground failure on natural and engineered rock slopes is a geological hazard with potentially fatal consequences to the public or personnel in mining industry. Aerial reconnaissance use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) rapidly becoming standard practice for geotechnical engineering site investigations, enabling faster safer data collection slopes, which are often difficult access foot. Data obtained from alongside conventional field investigations assist development an model that can form basis various stability analyses including kinematic, limit equilibrium finite element analyses, even fall simulations. This paper presents two case studies remote used as initial method investigation classify slopes. The San Leo Italy open pit mine Caribbean demonstrate effectiveness these techniques developing preliminary be derived predict future ground behaviour managing risks associated hazard.

A new approach for assessing stability of rock slopes considering centroids of weak zones
The intersection lines between discontinuity surfaces and their intersection points on the visible surfaces of any engineering structure may be the instability indicators. This paper describes a new approach to modelling the intersecting lines and points that would provide the first evaluation of any instability in an engineering structure characterized by the failure modes. In this work, the i...

13 Erosion and slope instability poses a significant hazard to communities and 14 infrastructure located is coastal areas. We use point cloud and spectral data derived from close 15 range digital photogrammetry to perform a kinematic analysis of chalk sea cliffs located at 16 Telscombe, UK. Our data were captured from an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and cover a 17 cliff face that is about 750 ...
متن کاملRock bench: Establishing a common repository and standards for assessing rockmass characteristics using LiDAR and photogrammetry
Remote sensing methods are now used to assess rockmass characteristics along transportation corridors, in mines and tunnels, and in other areas where rock falls can affect humans and infrastructure. A variety of sensor methods, primarily LiDAR and photogrammetry, have seen recent use with widespread success and state of practice acceptance. Various commercial and custom tools exist to process t...
متن کاملGeospatial Data Integration for Assessing Landslide Hazard on Engineered Slopes
Road and rail networks are essential components of national infrastructures, underpinning the economy, and facilitating the mobility of goods and the human workforce. Earthwork slopes such as cuttings and embankments are primary components, and their reliability is of fundamental importance. However, instability and failure can occur, through processes such as landslides. Monitoring the conditi...
متن کاملPhotogrammetry for geological applications: automatic retrieval of discontinuity orientation in rock slopes
The stability of a rock slope depends on the rock mass geo-structure and its discontinuities. Discontinuities show up at the rock surface as smooth and often plane surfaces. From their location and orientation the main families of fractures can be inferred and a stability analysis performed. To gather information on their distribution, surveys are typically carried out with geological compass a...
